When you are searching for a quiet starter-home in the Bixby Knolls area of Long Beach you will want to visit Ridgewood Heights.  Ridgewood Heights is a mixed residential neigborhood containing single family homes, condos and multi-family apartments.  Just north of New Bixby and Bixby Highlands, Ridgewood Heights is bordered by San Antonio Drive on the south, Cherry to the east, Atlantic to the west and Harwick Street (just north of Del Amo Blvd) to the north.  The homes in this area are primarily single story two and three bedroom homes with one or two bathrooms.   

 

Although you can find two story homes that have been expanded over the years which are larger with four bedrooms.  You will find a range of home sizes in the area between 800 square feet to over 2,700 square feet.  Lot size for homes range between 5,000 and 7,500 square feet.  The homes were primarily built in the 1940s and 1950s. 

 

The area contains several multi-family apartment buildings on San Antonio Drive, California, Banner Drive and Orange Avenue.  These investment properties are four-plex and larger apartment complexes bordering the commercial zones of Ridgewood Heights.  Ridgewood Heights is a popular area for homes held for investment purposes with a "medium" risk for flip opportunities (where investors purchase homes make cosmetic improvements and resell the home immediately).  According to Fidelity Title this area is considered to have "stable market trends and consistent sales" that indicate normal market activity.

The local park in Ridgewood Heights is Bixby Knolls Park - located on San Antonio Drive.  A perfect place to play soccer, basketball, play on the swings or just enjoy a barbeque picnic with the family.  Bixby Knolls Park is unique because it has a Co-Op Child Care Program.  In addition, residents of Ridgewood Heights have access to Scherer Park on the corner of Del Amo Blvd., and Atlantic Avenue.  Scherer Park is almost 23 acres in size and offers basketball courts, playground, adult fitness, picnic area and much much more.  The Long Beach Parks & Recreation Department sponsor regular events at Somerset and other local area parks.  A few miles away at Los Cerritos Park the area neighborhood residents and guests are invited each week during the summer months to "Concerts in the Park." Each month on Atlantic Blvd (just to the east) between Bixby Road and San Antonio the local businesses sponsor a "First Friday" evening. On First Fridays, the businesses stay open later and sponsor special events, speakers, book signings, concerts, plays and culinary treats for residents and guests. Also, two times a year (kick off the summer and winter seasons) the Bixby Knolls Improvement Association sponsors a large street fair. Fun, food, community and special events are the call of the day during these street fairs open to all.
