When you are searching for a unique first-home or an affordable neighborhood in the City of Long Beach you should consider North Long Beach. Real estate or property in this area is conveniently located within a short distance to major Southern California freeways - the 710, 91, 405, 605 and 105 freeways. This makes North Long Beach convenient and timely if you need to commute to Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside County or other coastal communities. North Long Beach is inland from the beach; however, the freeways still make it easy for you to get where you need to go relatively quickly.
North Long Beach covers a large geographic area that borders several Cities to the west, north and east. North Long Beach borders on the west Carson, Rancho Dominguez and Compton, to the north Compton and Paramount, and to the east Bellflower and Lakewood. Property in North Long Beach is bordered on the south by sections of Del Amo Blvd. (Del Amo runs at an angle with sections of North Long Beach south and north of the Blvd.), 53rd street and Virginia Country Club.

North Long Beach consists of a few prominent architectual styles (not exclusively but the vast majority) including Spanish, California Bungalows, Post-War tract and modified tract homes. For the most part the homes are single-story raised foundation structures with either tile or pitched composite shingle roofs. You can find two-story Cape Cod, or Ranches or other modified tract homes that have been expanded over the years. These are the exception though not the typical area style home in North Long Beach. The homes in the area were generally built from the mid-1920s through the 1940s. A few homes were built between 1950s and the mid-1970s. As with other Long Beach communities, homes have been modified (living space created in the garages, porches, etc.) or additions built creating additional bedrooms or other living space. However, this type of expansion is not as prominent as in other areas within the City of Long Beach (Long Beach Real Estate or Homes) because people tend to move into other communities as their real estate needs or employment changes, or as their family grows.
The typical North Long Beach home and lot will vary in size. The range for single-family homes will vary on the low end around 600 square feet and on the larger side to over 3,000 square feet. For the majority of homes in the area the range will be between 1,100 - 1,650 square feet. Homes in North Long Beach will have 1-6 bedrooms and 1-4 bathrooms. These are the extreme ranges; however the typical home will have 1-3 bedrooms and 1-2 bathrooms. Lot sizes range from 2,200 square feet to over 6,200 square feet; while the majority of lots range between 3,500 - 5,200 square feet for a single family home. In a few areas (streets) the homes are serviced by an alley into their 1-2 car garages; however, most of the homes in North Long Beach have garages accessible from the front yard with a driveway into the street. North Long beach is like other communities that are consistent with the time tested principle in real estate investing - real estate is all about location, location, location. In North Long Beach the closer you are to De Forest Park the better your home will retain its value better than in other areas of the community.

North Long Beach has five community parks scattered throughout the area. One of the larger parks is De Forest Park (a 26 acre park that has adult classes, youth recreation, community center and much much more) which runs north and south along the Los Angles River. A few blocks away is Houghton Park (a 26.3 acre park just south of Jordan High School), and only a few miles away is Ramona Park (near Artesia Blvd. and Downey). These parks are ideal recreational facilities that allow for basketball, soccer, football, baseball, a power walk during the day, family picnics, play on the swings or a leisurely rest from your busy day. During the day these parks fill with people jogging, taking leasurely walks along the bike paths and rests.
The Long Beach Parks & Recreation Department sponsor regular events at these parks as well as other parks in neighboring communities. For example, at Los Cerritos Park (Bixby Knolls area) the area neighborhood residents and guests are invited each week during the summer months to "Concerts in the Park." Each month on Atlantic Blvd (just to the east) between Bixby Road and San Antonio the local businesses sponsor a "First Friday" evening. On First Fridays, the businesses stay open later and sponsor special events, speakers, book signings, concerts, plays and culinary treats for residents and guests. Also, two times a year (kick off the summer and winter seasons) the Bixby Knolls Improvement Association sponsors a large street fair. Fun, food, community and special events are the call of the day during these street fairs open to all.
