When you are searching for a unique neighborhood in the Bixby Knolls area of Long Beach you will want to visit Chateau Thierry.  Chateau Thierry is a mixed residential, commercial and mult-family neighborhood containing single family homes, condos, churches, motels, office buildings, retail and multi-family apartments.  Although the area consists of only four streets (running north and south), it is a highly dense zoning for the multi-family, condos, commerical and retail.  Yet the single family lots tend to be larger in depth than what is typical for the area.  Chateau Thierry located in the City of Long Beach is just west of Bixby Knoll and Cal Heights, and east of Los Cerritos.  Chateau Thierry is bordered by San Antonio Drive on the north, Atlantic Avenue to the east, Long Beach Blvd. to the west and Wardlow to the south.  Athough there is significant traffic driving through the area, the homes are set back and sheltered by mature trees in the front and private backyards that insure individual privacy.   

The architectual styles in Chateau Thierry vary significantly.  You can find one and two story Spanish, Tudors, Colonial, Cape Cods, Post-War tract, Ranch, California Bungalow, and two story contemporary homes in this area.  The size of the homes range between 1,200 square feet and over 5,000 square feet.

The consistent feature in Chateau Thierry are the size of the lots which typically exceed 9,000 square feet.  The area homes have alley access to the backyards and garages.  Most of the homes in Chateau Thierry were originally built in the 1920s and 1930s.  

The area contains several multi-family apartment buildings on Linden and Elm near Wardlow.  These investment properties are larger apartment complexes bordering the commercial zones between California Heights and Los Cerritos.  Chateau Thierry is a popular area for condos held for investment purposes with a "medium" risk for flip opportunities (where investors purchase homes make cosmetic improvements and resell the home immediately).

Local commercial and retail businesses line Long Beach Blvd., Atlantic Avenue, Wardlow, 36th Street, 37th Street, and Bixby Road.  Chateau Thierry and the Bixby Knolls areas contain a wide range of neighborhood businesses that provide retail, health care, educational, entertainment, social, and general commercial products and services.  

The local park closest to Chateau Thierry is Los Cerritos Park - located on the corner of Bixby Road and Country Club.  A perfect place to play soccer, tennis, baseball, play on the swings or just enjoy a barbeque picnic with the family.  In addition, Somerset Park is nearby on Carson (just south of Bixby Highlands).  The Long Beach Parks & Recreation Department sponsor regular events at Somerset and other local area parks.  At Los Cerritos Park the area neighborhood residents and guests are invited each week during the summer months to "Concerts in the Park."  Each month on Atlantic Blvd (just to the east) between Bixby Road and San Antonio the local businesses sponsor a "First Friday" evening.  On First Fridays, the businesses stay open later and sponsor special events, speakers, book signings, concerts, plays and culinary treats for residents and guests.
